From the 30th of June UK based AMPs have a higher threshold for due diligence
From 30 June 2026, the UK AML threshold for UK Art Market Participants is changing from 10,000 euros to 10,000 pounds sterling. Art Market Participants based in the EU will continue to use the 10,000 euro threshold.
The change aims to simplify compliance by introducing a fixed sterling threshold, removing the need to calculate whether transactions exceed the euro equivalent.
If you're reviewing your own documentation, this is a good opportunity to update any internal AML policies, risk assessments and procedures that still reference the €10,000 threshold.
The amendment also changes how high-risk jurisdictions are assessed under the UK Money Laundering Regulations. Going forward, businesses should use the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) lists rather than the former UK High-Risk Third Countries list when assessing country risk.
Arcarta already screens against the relevant international risk lists and will identify matches for:
Jurisdictions under Increased Monitoring (the FATF Grey List) should be considered as part of your overall customer and country risk assessment. Jurisdictions subject to a Call for Action (the FATF Black List) are those that trigger mandatory Enhanced Due Diligence under the UK Money Laundering Regulations.
Arcarta is a Due Diligence platform for the art market and is used by over 400 Art businesses internationally.
